About the Competition
Whisk It is an exciting cooking competition exclusively for students in Years 10 – 12 who are studying a VETDSS cookery course. This competition aims to showcase the culinary talents of aspiring chefs in the region.
Eligibility Requirements
To participate in Whisk It, students must meet the following criteria:
- Enrolled in a VETDSS cookery course
- Competent in handling food hygienically
- Skilled in safely operating tools and equipment
Team Composition
Each school is responsible for selecting a team of four students who will work together on a single bench. The team will be divided into pairs, with one pair focusing on creating a main course item and the other pair preparing a dessert for assessment.
Timeframe
Students will have a total of 100 minutes to complete their dishes, followed by approximately 30 minutes for cleaning up. It’s essential to stay organized and work efficiently to complete the cooking tasks within the time limit.
Preparation and Trial Runs
To ensure readiness for the competition, participating schools will receive a list of core ingredients in advance. This allows students to practice and experiment with different dishes before the competition day. Students can gain confidence and refine their culinary skills through trial runs with alternative dishes using the ingredients.
We encourage all VETDSS cookery students in the south east of Melbourne to seize this opportunity to showcase their talent and passion for the culinary arts. Get ready to create delicious masterpieces and impress the Australian Culinary Federation panel of judges!
